This seven-day public intervention workshop offers an opportunity for artistic practices by emphasizing on sound. Participants will be encouraged to reflect and intervene on public space and daily life, focusing on spaces of transit and transportation.

Transit zones are multidimensional spaces between origin and destination. That is everyday routine travel e.g. from home to work but also between countries. They are the spatial representation of the human right of freedom of movement, the busy intersections of everyday life routine, between and within Lefebvre's dialectical system of leisure, private life and work.

Historically Berlin has had a conscious involvement with transit zones, e.g. the sectorization of Berlin after WW2 and later the division of East and West Germany. Recently they have regained negative attention through refugees getting caught within european transit zones with their restrictive and criminalizing characteristics.

The means of transit of private and public transportation experienced great changes since the industrial revolution, from a sensational experience of speed and distance to routine travel for the masses. Each technological advancement lengthened and sped up the daily distances covered.

In the first 2 days, participants will be given an overview over the broad spectrum of sound art and characteristics of sound as a medium, as well as Public Art, socially engaged artistic praxis and site specific art.

The remaining days will be dedicated to field work, research and working on site. A showcasing of the works will conclude the workshop.

In this project participants will approach this theme with the use of the ephemeral medium sound and gain a deeper understanding of public space and art therein. They will have the opportunity for artistic discipline in an open-minded surrounding with participants of various backgrounds.
