Description
There are many workshops and courses which take participants from written material on the page to some sort of stage presentation or performance. In this workshop we will do the opposite: you'll learn how to go from stage to page – and back.
We will work with language as living, vibrant material. It breathes, moves, changes, grows, challenges – it possesses its own rhythms and dynamics. We will work with the body, voice, space and words. After physically exploring space, rhythms and tensions, you will be led to apply these discoveries to words on the page.
In the workshop we will work with improvisation exercises designed to stimulate your imagination and make you look at language in a new light. Sounds, rhythms and images are sharpened. These discoveries flow into your writing on the page. Page can then flow back to stage.
What you choose to write about and what form it takes depends on you. At the end of the workshop you will have gained new insights, impressions and techniques. You can take them with you and apply them outside the workshop, bringing more sharpness and precision to both your writing and performance.
The workshop will be taught by Shannon Sullivan/ Performance Lab Berlin.
Shannon Sullivan has been working with the body for over 20 years. Originally trained as a professional dancer, she continued to study acting, writing, anatomy, music and improvisation. She is the founder of Performance Lab Berlin and the curator of the yearly event SWAN Day Berlin (Support Women Artists Now Day). Her newest piece “Broken: Part I” premiered at SWAN Day Berlin 2010/ NAH DRAN XX in March 2010 at ada-Studio Berlin.
