01Who set up this portal? What is it for?

Creative City Berlin is both a contact point and a presentation platform for artists and people working in the creative industries. It is a Internet portal that provides you with information concerning support programmes, founding, studio finding, further trainings, scholarships and many more. Our platform offers a first orientation and a networking service for artists or entrepreneurs, who have just moved to Berlin or who are planning to. Artists and creative people are welcome to ask questions on our website, which will be answered by our editorial office or which we will be forwarded to the responsible institution in Berlin that might help you with your project.

The project is supported by Berlin’s cultural affairs department (Senate Chancellery – Cultural Affairs) in co-operation with the Senate Department for Economy (Projekt Zukunft). These and other institutions provide our Internet portal with information. Through interfaces and co-operations, Creative City Berlin is also linked to branch networks, cultural and creative blogs as well as job market websites. Kulturprojekte Berlin GmbH operates the website.

02What are the portal’s basic functions?

Under the menu heading on the left-hand side you will find a variety of information on the promotion of culture, financial support, creating a business, copyright law, finding a workshop, taxes, networks, education, location figures and facts and much more.

A database enables a comprehensive overview of the vast number of institutions, businesses, individuals and events. It also includes many links to further sources of information, so-called infolinks. Artists and creative people are welcome to ask questions on our website, which will be answered by our editorial office or which we will be forwarded to the responsible institution in Berlin that might help you with your project.

The portal’s was created secondly as a community platform. This means: artists, businesses and employees belonging to the creative industries as well as institutions now have the opportunity to create their own profile, by which they will also be able to be located within the database. Profile holders are able to get in contact with each other. Profiles for institutions or companies can be managed by an individual as long as he/she is authorised to do so by the institution.

All fields will be completed and updated. Thus, the information and content of www.creative-city-berlin.de grows thanks to the user. Creative City Berlin ist also on twitter and facebook.

03Do you have to pay to use the portal?

No, membership is free.

08The institution/business I work for is already listed in the database, but I am going to manage its profile. How do I do this?

If your institution/business is already listed, then you will be ale to manage its profile. To do this you must first create an individual profile and then go to your institution/business’s profile as a logged-in user. In the menu on the right-hand side under “Activities” you will see the heading “Is this your business?” After our team has checked and confirmed your data, you will receive an e-mail informing you about your rights as a profile administrator and you will be able to manage your institution/business’s profile.

09My business is not yet listed. How can I create a profile?

First you have to create an individual profile. If you are legitimated by the institution you want to create a profile for you have to log in and click on the button “add an institutional / company profile” in the "My Profiles" menu on the right side. After having checked your profile, Creative City Berlin will publish it. Your profile will then be visible for everyone visiting our website.

10To what extent can users of the portal help shape its content?

Firstly, you have the opportunity to contact us directly via the button "help" - "feedback" in the right corner on the top of our website. We are constantly working to improve and expand our website with regard to both usability and content. If you have a suggestion, we are happy to hear about it.

Under “Activities” you can propose new institutions, infolinks, job offers and events.

In the “Community” field we offer many tools so that users can shape this field themselves. The member can inform the community about his own up-coming events, appointments and news. More features are planned.

11How can I enter events into the database?

To add an event, you need to be registered on Creative City Berlin (see question 7). If you're then logged in, click on "events" - "add new event" and by filling out the form, you can add your new event. You will find the same form by clicking on "activities" - "add new event".

17How does the Job Market work?
The job offers are provided from both users and external partners. There is a continuous exchange with, e.g. www.creativeset.net, www.kulturmanagement.net, www.theaterjobs.de or www.music-job.com which functions mutually. This means that all jobs posted on Creative City Berlin are directed to the partner sites if desired by our users. So, one can reach a vast creative community by posting a single job offer. Some partners require a paid login, before being able to view any job offers. In order to add a new job offer, just follow those steps: 1. Log in 2. Choose "add job offer" from the category ACTIVITIES on the right-hand side 3. Fill in the needed information 4. Done!
18When will my profile appear on your welcome page and how can my portfolio be featured?
An important point while filling in your profile is the so-called "charisma". The more information you have on your profile, the more interesting it becomes to others and the easier it can be found on our website. Without any profile picture, you will not be shown on our welcome page and only if your portfolio has more than one set of portfolios, it will be uprated to our featured portfolios. If you want to be presented in our next newsletter or on our facebook page, make sure you have a convincing description about you and your work. If you want to be found by others, make sure that the tags by which you want to be found also appear in your description or in the categories.
