Elena Bolsuno: "It’s as good as Prague, but bigger"

Since 1990, the ACUD Theatre in Berlin-Mitte has been a place for young, innovative and diverse theatre that tests the bridge between acting, dance, performing art, clowning and figure theatre. Elena Bolsuna is the art director of ACUD and part of this year Berlin delegation for the “Malá inventura international festival of new theatre“ at Prague. Here we introduce her shortly.
CCB Magazine: Hello, Elena Bolsuna. You are the art director of ACUD Theatre. Please describe your work, what exactly do you do? What is your artistic background?
Elena Bolsuno: My artistic background is in physical theatre and clowning. Besides directing, I focus on workshop development and teaching, both in Germany and abroad. At ACUD Theatre I research and select the performances that will be shown and organize international exchanges too. I recruit actors and performers and set production schedules as well as managing budgets.
CCB Magazine:This year you are part of the Berlin delegation for the "Malá inventura international festival of new theatre" in Prague. What do you expect from this exchange? What is the added value of such a trip?
Elena Bolsuno: This cultural exchange brings us a lot! It‘s a great way to see spectacular performances, to meet new people in my field as well as expand my knowledge.
CCB Magazine:What do you know about Prague and the art and culture scene there? What do you want to get to know?
Elena Bolsuno: Prague, as the capital city has a wide range of different theatres, that present classic and contemporary shows, shows complete with non-verbal and verbal stories presented with dance, music and interesting visuals. It will be great to discover theatres with an intimate atmosphere, less conventional theatres and performances of independent groups, as well as experimental.
CCB Magazine:Berlin's dance and theatre scene is characterized by the independent scene, off-theatres and niche diversity. If you had to introduce Berlin as a location for the performing arts to someone in Prague, what would you tell them?
Elena Bolsuno: It’s as good as Prague, but bigger.
