On the occasion of its 10thbirthday, MOMENTUM, the Global Platform for Time-based Art, is proud to present a selection of video works reflecting on life leading up to and during COVID-19; the poetry of the day-to-day as it relates to the changing world we inhabit. With one country after another having closed their borders, and with social distancing continuing to be measured in meters, countries, and continents, we are instructed to seek safety in seclusion from the world and from one another. So, in the spirit of its medieval literary namesake, and with a defiant wink in the face of COVID-19, COVIDecameron gathers together video works by 19 artists from 12 countries around the globe, for an exhibition online. Like Boccaccio's storytellers in 'The Decameron', the visual stories presented here take time. They need not be watched all at once. The exhibition remains online to be picked up and put down any time, like re-reading a favourite book. This exhibition of art from elsewhere provides a retreat from which to safely contemplate the world - a way of travelling without traveling. Moving images move us. Celebrating new acquisitions to the MOMENTUM Collection, as well as works with which MOMENTUM has grown during its first 10 years, COVIDecameron is a ‘thank you’ to the artists who have entrusted their work to us, and a tribute to all the exceptional artists we have worked with over the years, as well as to our audiences around the globe. We wish you all safety and good health in these viral times.
