In Berlin-Charlottenburg there will be a wooden Shakespeare Globe Theatre. Before it will be built, the future site will already be providing a sample of the Globe’s program. The prologue-season „Utopia and Illusion“ consists of three theatre premieres and several visiting productions and world music concerts from June to September. All will be presented open air on a preliminary theatre.
The first premiere, on June 1st, will be ROMEO & JULIA by William Shakespeare, under the artistic direction of Christian Leonard. This production will be presented on some dates in English and on others in German language. On June 19th ÜBER DIE VERFÜHRUNG VON ENGELN (On the Seduction of Angels) will be the 2nd premiere. This musical evening with love poetry and songs by Bertolt Brecht will be directed by Jens Schmidl. On July 24th a tragic-comical farce NACH DEM KUSS (After the Kiss) by Oliver Bukokwski, directed by Anselm Lipgens will be the third in-house production.
Globe Berlin aims for a spectacular, sensual, popular approach to theatre for audiences of any age, cultural background and close to the topics that matter to all of us.
