Double Dance Performance

Ghost - especially female ghosts typically portrayed with white garment and long hair - has been a classical figure in pop culture. Horror stories depict the female ghosts trapped in wells, walls, lakes or old castles, haunting and putting curses on innocent victims. But why did these female ghosts end up there in the first place?

This double-performance from Elektro Kagura presents the stories of two classical female ghosts:

Okiku from Japanese folklore who was murdered by her master and whose ghost form keeps counting the plates out of which her master hid one on purpose; and

the withe lady from legends in Europe and the world, whose numerous narratives are always associated with the theme of loss, betrayed by a husband or fiancé, and unrequited love.

This performance brings the audience closer to these ghosts as human beings who has similar life experience and sufferings in patriarchal society and as survivors of violence eager to shared their stories, emotions and power.
