KULTURSYMPOSIUM WEIMAR 2021 – GENERATIONS
What challenges arise when generations live together? Which are the opportunities of looking into the past? And what are the key questions on the way to a sustainable future?
The third edition of the Goethe-Institut’s Kultursymposium Weimar will take place on 16 and 17 June 2021, this time with a thematic focus on “Generations”. Every two years, over five hundred people from all over the world come together in Weimar to attend this discursive festival for new networks and ideas. Due to the current pandemic, this edition of the symposium will take place online, accompanied by selected events in Weimar and at Goethe-Instituts worldwide.
In three key topics the #KSWE21 will address the urgent generational issues of our time:
CONFLICT & COOPERATIONAt breakfast tables and in parliaments, on Twitter and on the streets - how are generations arguing with each other? We want to focus on solidarity, dissociation and protest and discuss unequal balance of power and the generation change in politics and companies.
SUSTAINABILITY & THE FUTUREWhat should the world of tomorrow look like – and who makes the rules? Hardly any issue rouses younger and older generations today more than how to deal with climate change. The challenges of climate change are just as important as the far-reaching implications of demographic change – which are also transforming intergenerational relationships.
IDENTITY & MEMORYWho are we? Where do we feel we belong? And how do we write our own histories? Questions of identity will be discussed starting from the power of intergenerational trauma to ideas of love, sex and partnership in the change of generations.
The Kultursymposium Weimar 2021 presents numerous international events that combine very different perspectives from culture, science, business, the media and politics.
