Catalyst Institute for Creative Arts and Technology is an international, creative production learning community based at the extraordinary Funkhaus facility. We deliver bachelor and master’s degree programmes in music production, film, visual effects, and screen acting to students from more than 50 countries. Our Master’s programme in Creative Production (Music) is research-focussed and provides students with space and support to investigate in depth some self-determined aspect of their own connection with sound, music and performance.

Our courses are based on the values and concepts of progressive education whilst complying with the rigorous requirements of a UK university qualification. We encourage students to push their creative boundaries way beyond what they thought possible at the same time as engaging with their personal growth as a human being.

What are we looking for?
We are currently looking for experienced freelance tutors to join our team. We are interested in applicants with academic experience in the following general areas:

Support for dissertation development and writing
Supervision of post-graduate level projects
Hands-on support with general research and project skills
Ongoing, dynamic and responsive curriculum development
Interviewing and giving feedback upon prospective MA student proposals

In addition, specific industry or academic experience in two or more of the following areas is desirable:

Artistic Research/Practice-based research methods
Sound studies/Audio culture (for example perspectives on listening, electronic music history and practice, musical sociology, history and aesthetics, modernism and post-modernism)
Creative and emergent Musical Technologies in relation to artistic practice (for example hardware hacking, audio-visual creation, multichannel audio, field recording and max MSP/Reaktor coding)
Contemporary dance, pop and experimental music practice and aesthetics
Creative applications of online media
Experience with online teaching would be beneficial

Key accountabilities
Writing and developing schemes of work and content for workshops
Delivering classes, workshops, lectures, seminars and tutorials
Monitoring student progress and providing academic support
Assessing and grading student submissions
Providing feedback to the programme leader and attending programme meetings

About you
Prior experience in teaching
A master's degree or higher
Fluent in English, both spoken and written (other languages are a bonus)
Ability to deliver different narratives with an inspiring personal perspective
An open mind and supportive approach to teaching
Interested in helping to build a growing creative community
Willingness to develop your teaching capabilities
Available to teach weekly between mid-September 2021 and mid-May / end-July 2022 (depending on different semesters and not including semester breaks and holidays).
Ability to adapt and improvise when necessary
