Project description

Since its first edition in 2015–2016, Forecast offers artists and creative thinkers from around the world the opportunity to work with accomplished mentors toward bringing their projects to fruition. For each edition, Forecast selects six mentors of various disciplines who offer selected participants their expertise in specifying and realizing their project ideas.

Each year, creative practitioners are invited to submit project proposals via an open call. The selection process is two-tiered. First, the mentors carefully review all proposals and invite three nominees each to workshop and to present their ideas at the Forecast Forum in Berlin. At the conclusion of that phase, each mentor chooses one mentee. Those six mentees’ projects are further accompanied to completion, and presented at the Forecast Festival.

Forecast transcends genre boundaries, offers insight into creative production processes, and creates space for the questions that are important to the next generation of trailblazers. Forecast provides a transdisciplinary context for the fields in which these creative minds work and the questions they ask, and translates these into concrete experiences such as concerts, performances, installations, exhibitions, and film screenings.

Artists Candice Breitz and Omer Fast, curators Koyo Kouoh and Hou Hanru, musicians Holly Herndon, Jennifer Walshe, and Okkyung Lee, choreographer Richard Siegal, photographers Bas Princen and Tobias Zielony, and other luminaries have served as mentors. In 2019, Forecast has started its long-term cooperation with radialsystem.

The mentors of the current sixth edition (2021–2022) of Forecast are architect Tatiana Bilbao (Mexico); digital policy expert Francesca Bria (Italy); experimental singer and composer Sofia Jernberg (Sweden); cartoonist Ulli Lust (Austria); choreographer Mathilde Monnier (France); and artist Emeka Ogboh (Nigeria).
