Takaya Kobayashi

Scenographer

Description

Takaya Kobayashi (*1990, Akita, Japan) is a Japanese scenographer. He studied scenography at Musashino Art University in Tokyo and Technical University in Berlin. Since graduating with a Master of Arts degree in 2018 in Berlin, he has been collaborating with various artists and choreographers throughout Germany.

For Saori Hala (Berlin), Takaya created the scenography for the choreographic work "Da Dad Dada" (2017, Uferstudios Berlin). For the dance production by Jascha Viehstädt (Hamburg), "TABLEAU" (May 2019; Sprechwerk, Hamburg; Ballhaus Ost, Berlin), Takaya developed the stage and costume design. He has collaborated with Japanese artist Miu (Düsseldorf) as a scenographer since the latter's productions "Empty Balloons Society Ex" (November 2018, Weltkunstzimmer, Düsseldorf) and "Fermata" (October 2019, Parkkultur, Düsseldorf).

Takaya developed scenography with the team of international artists for "Deep. Dance" by Jascha Viehstädt (May 2021, Wiese e.G, Hamburg), a dance piece generated by artificial intelligence.

From 2021, he expanded his career as a scenographer to public theaters. For "Mary Stuart," directed by Kevin Barz, performed at the Oldenburg State Theater, he designed the set in collaboration with Britta Leonhardt. In 2022, he designs the set and costumes for "Macbeth." The play will be performed at the Oldenburg State Theater and the Rose Theatre in Kingston, London.
