Description

My name is Felix Schutze, I am 26 years old and I’m a filmmaker.
I just finished my studies in film and television production at the Leipzig University of Applied Science (HTWK). Alongside my studies and my side job I steadily realized my own creative projects. These projects mean I often collaborated with visual
artists, film makers, actors, dancers, performance artists and other professionals from the creative fields in Leipzig and Berlin.

In terms of my motivation, first and foremost I must say moving images and working in the film and television industry attracts me because of the variety of creative individuals that come together and connect with each other to pursue a shared vision in an interdisciplinary process. I am very much interested in people that have a story to tell and finding means to visualise of those stories. To put the human in the spotlight is my biggest ambition.

With time I became aware of the fact that with the skills I have acquired I can help people to be seen. I want to use my privilege as a filmmaker to give a forum to people that are not getting any visibility in our society because of pervasive social marginalisation. Likewise, politics play a huge role in my work. As a queer individual I meander on a daily basis through the difficulties of queer feminism. Thus, I tested out my attraction towards documentary filmmaking, got to know the high value of documentary films as a method of creative and political intervention and consolidated my intercultural competence.

I was raised in a family of professional dancers and the language of aesthetic and rhythmic movement constantly accompanied me. Even though I have no formal education as a dancer or performer, I was able to pursue this strong interest in the body by practicing and relishing martial arts which also happened to teach me to constantly challenge the limits of my perceived capacities. That is why in my work the narrative is strongly shaped by performative arts since those are the aspects that have become the vehicle for expression, immersion and escapism into something spoken language can’t always enunciate.

My learned skills are both technical and creative in nature. In this way I am experienced with film, video and television equipment and furthermore with developing and realizing creative stories. Within my studies I produced multiple video-interviews, reportages, image films, fictional films and documentary films as a director, D.O.P. or editor.

I worked as a video journalist for the private television station, Leipzig Fernsehen in Leipzig and that improved my capacity for teamwork in a professional environment which demanded results on a daily basis. Here I also learned about independence, sense of responsibility, accuracy of communication, ability to work under time pressure and to take and adapt feedback and critique.
