Description

Mexican-Canadian artist based in Vancouver, also working from Berlin and Mexico City.

He worked as telecommunications engineer before making a turn to the arts. The relations among téchne, art, and human comprehension are a continuous concern in his work. Central to his practice is an approach to the gaze as unfolding understanding. He uses photography, arrangements of text, and installation, to question the identity of places and things, often by illuminating the movement, transformation and temporal fluctuation of appearances and meanings. His practice explores how the movement of eyes, body and comprehension, in a changing world, constitute fleeting realities that suspend linear readings and accepted representations. This is a way of highlighting the vitality of human intentionality in a world that increasingly favours life as programed automation.
