LOT1 are young (offline) art auctions for Berlin.
As the first auction house to enter the primary market, we use the communication and reception forms of the digital age to get in touch with art. It is not just a click on a button that leads to a purchase and completes the interaction with the art: We want the artworks to be experienceable in their immediacy, as they are distributed throughout the city and can be previewed at the locations of our partners (selected bars, pubs, studios, concept stores, etc.). The objects up for auction can be scanned on site with via Augmented Reality Object Recognition on smartphones or tablets - and further information on work and artist appears on the screen. Our map shows exhibiting locations or guides leading users directly to the artworks via GPS, offers thematic walks (e.g. by district or genre) or offers recommendations ("You might also like", "Nearby"). Augmented Reality also allows to easily project a 3D model of an artwork into your own home.
LOT1 is an alternative to online-only services for affordable art. We combine the digital with the analogue. Our auctions take place live and offline - with hammer and pult, with bidder numbers and hand signs. They are both an event and an exhibition - with the joy of meeting, discussing, talks and interviews, music, food and drinks. LOT1 invites to ever-changing locations and values face-to-face encounters and exchange of ideas. We understand Berlin as an open space of a living, tangible and dynamically changing culture and also as a global but individual centre for art - that involves all of us. Pre-aucition bids are placed online and offline at the live event. The artworks can be previewed digitally and in real space.
With LOT1, we want to break down barriers and invite people to encounter art and its artists in an informal way. We see LOT1 as an invitation to all those who cannot find their way in the barely navigable online market or struggle to decide on buying art as well as well as to anyone who wants to feel part of their city by discovering, supporting and participating in the local art scene in a new way - digitally as well as analogue.
