Times Art Center Berlin was founded in July 2018 by the Guangdong Times Museum, a non-profit private art museum of great importance situated within the Pearl River Delta in China. Registered as a non-profit art institution, Times Art Center Berlin is currently located in the Potsdamer Strasse Art District in the heart of Berlin. Times Art Center is scheduled to open to the public at the end of 2018.
Times Art Center Berlin is the first parallel institution founded by an Asia-based art museum overseas. Operating as an independent and self-governed organization, it intends to explore new models of developing Asian contemporary art institutions both in Europe and the world — through exhibitions, research, productions, screenings, public educational programs, artist residencies and publications. Additionally, Times Art Center plans to collaborate on a regular basis with local artists, curators, intellectuals and institutions via dynamic research to provide a platform of academic discourse and artistic production for Chinese, Asian and international artists.
As a new experimental contemporary art space, Times Art Center Berlin embraces global cultures, conducting in-depth and effective communication with the local cultures and artistic ecologies of Berlin, following the principles of co-production and cosmopolitanism. Times Art Center Berlin promotes the presentation and discourse, in a European cultural context, of aesthetics and visions related to the "New Institutional Geography" established by the Guangdong Times Art Museum, while proactively contributing to the growing artistic ecologies of Berlin.
