Description

Love letters for letter lovers: TYPE HYPE in Berlin. New as of autumn 2013.

Kirsten Dietz and Jochen Rädeker are among the world’s most esteemed designers and typographers. After 20 years of contract work for top brands, in autumn 2013 they are launching their own label, TYPE HYPE, to share their love of letters with all those who, even in the digital age, appreciate tangible design, worthwhile printed material and top quality you can feel. In this spirit and piece by piece, a collection of unique products has been created that combines sustainable production methods and the feel of the metropolis that is Berlin with individual design from A to Z – because everything TYPE HYPE brings to the market in the product groups Paperware, Home Collection, Accessories and Food is available in every letter of the alphabet. This means that alongside individual pieces, product sets that together spell out a complete word or a name are possible. The online configuration tool at www.typehype.com offers infinite possibilities for combining unique gift sets from over 2,000 individual notebooks or comfortable cushions, sophisticated tableware items or selected gourmet products.

All of that is available not just with letters and numbers, but also in various design lines: there’s a simple black and gold series known as ‘DIN Berlin’; ‘Hauptstadt’ products feature the sights of Berlin designed with the look and feel of book design from the former East Germany; ‘Made in Mitte’ is a homage to the Berlin art scene and ‘Luise’ is the name given to a typographic declaration of love in turn-of-the-century style – the one before last, of course.

Unique products in unique surroundings – a design must-see in Berlin-Mitte.

A visit to the TYPE HYPE store in Berlin-Mitte is worth your while: old industrial lamps hang above metal type boxes and a wheezing Heidelberg jobbing press. Alongside this, another tradition is brought back to life: to balance out the poisonous materials in the lead for the letters, apprentice typesetters used to have to continually drink litres of milk at work – which is why the TYPE HYPE store at Rosa-Luxemburg-Strasse 13 will, as of autumn 2013, feature a trendy milk bar where, from eight until eight, seven days a week, fresh organic milk and speciality coffees from Brandenburg will be served along with other dairy products, from milk chocolate to bread and butter. Of course, alphabet soup is also on the menu. And everything is available to take away – appropriately packaged in TYPE HYPE design.
The people behind TYPE HYPE: star designers and a food expert.

At STRICHPUNKT, Kirsten Dietz and Jochen Rädeker head one of the best-known design agencies in Germany – over 600 prizes, including 30 ‘Awards of Excellence’ from the legendary New York Type Directors Club and Grands Prix in all the major design competitions in Europe, the US and Asia, are testament to the quality of their work.
Kirsten Dietz has authored several design books, while Jochen Rädeker was head of the association of the best creatives in Germany, the Art Directors Club Deutschland (ADC), until 2012.
As founder and initiator of the Stuttgart slow-food trade fair ‘Markt des guten Geschmacks’ (good-taste market) and with the bachelor’s degree in food management from Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW), Otto Geisel represents the excellent quality of food culture.
