Since more than 170 years the VBK offers an open spacefor communication and presentations in a variety of artisticpractice. Besides the presentation of contemporary and current art in all artistic areas in the Gallery of the VBK, the Verein Berliner Künstler (founded in 1841) dedicates itself to international artist exchange and critical discourse about art and society. The self‐government of the VBK opens a sphere of influence where artists find new perspectives in the active co‐creation and organization of their own projects. The extensive Archive houses collections of the members since the 19th Century. The documental part of the archive, autographs and photo material is treasured by the Academy of Arts Berlin. Projects and exhibitions are implemented with art colleagues of different nations in the gallery and the presentation work of the artists of the VBK are also shown atexternal show‐places. The VBK townhouse gallery is locatedin the center between Kulturforum, the Neuen Nationalgalerieand the young gallery district in Potsdamer Straße. With the excellent exhibition rooms the Gallery functions as a forum for changing presentations and the implementation of projects by the members of VBK as well as invited artists. Within the scope of artist Exchange and cooperation, international artists are invited to present their work. With 8–10 exhibitions yearly, many different exhibition formats and experimental Exhibition constellations are made possible.
