The Zentral- und Landesbibliothek Berlin (Central and Regional Library Berlin) is the central public library in Berlin with tasks of a regional library. Containing an inventory of 3.4 million media it is the biggest public library in Germany and furthermore it is the cultural and educational institution in Berlin which counts the most visitors. Organized in the form of a network consisting of the public libraries in Berlin called “VOEBB” (Verbund Öffentlicher Bibliotheken Berlins) the Zentral- und Landesbibliothek works together with the libraries in the different districts of Berlin. All together the VOEBB counts more than 80 libraries in Berlin, more than 9 million visitors come to the public libraries of the city. The Zentral- und Landesbibliothek Berlin is organized in two locations: the Amerika-Gedenkbibliothek in Kreuzberg and the Berliner Stadtbibliothek in Mitte. In both locations the library offers their users not only media but also new library formats. The Zentral- und Landesbibliothek Berlin is the first library in Germany which opens on Sunday, in this regard the Amerika-Gedenkbibliothek offers a varied and participatory program every Sunday.
