Advertising & PR
Berlin definitely stands for advertising and the communications industry. The city has developed into a relevant advertising location in Germany, in particular by assuming the function of capital city and by opening numerous internationally active advertising agencies (a total of approx. 1,500). Communication consultants for politics and business, such as A&B One, Media Consulta and Johannsen + Kretschmer, benefit from the proximity to government and associations. According to the Projekt Zukunft, Berlin's press market comprises over 2000 companies with around 12,700 employees and a turnover of over 2.3 billion euros (as of 2017). The Berlin advertising market recorded a turnover of 1.6 billion euros, generated by around 16,000 employees in over 1,400 companies (as of 2017).
The list of Berlin-based agencies includes Scholz & Friends, Media Consulta, GKM, Dorland as well as branches of BBDO, DDB and TBWA. Within the range of small and medium sized businesses, big names such as Heimat, Aimaq Rapp Stolle, Die Brandenburgs and Zum Hirschen also reside in Berlin. Furthermore, the most important platforms and organisations - the Art directors Club and the Central Association of German Advertising Industry (Zentralverband der Deutschen Werbewirtschaft) - are situated in Berlin. Despite difficult times in previous years, increasing profits are currently being generated, which has had an increasingly positive influence on the employment situation since 2006, giving due cause to be optimistic about the future.
