Photography

Alongside the fine art boom, Berlin has experienced a revival of its photography scene. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, it didn't take many years before Berlin developed into a centre of attraction for young and experimental photographers. As a result, Berlin is home to 100 galleries that are either partially or fully dedicated to exhibiting photography.

Furthermore, the medium profits from Berlin's tradition of appreciating photography, which is reflected in the abundance of rich photographic content displayed in the museums. Today, the number of photography exhibitions in Berlin is over average due to the activities of private associations, foreign embassies and cultural institutions.

The European Month of Photography Berlin is the largest photo festival in Germany and has taken place in Berlin every two years since 2004, presenting numerous exhibitions and events on historical and contemporary photography.
