The existence of innumerous public and private theaters, as well as the independent theater scene, supports the fact that Berlin was and remains a city of theater. A myriad of theater styles are practiced in Berlin: puppetry, physical theater, improvisational theater, varieté, and performance theater. Those are provided by institutions such as the Deutsche Oper, the Deutsche Theater, the Berliner Ensemble, the Komödie am Kurfürstendamm, the Komische Oper Berlin, the Friedrichstadtpalast, the Sophiensaele, the Dock 11 etc. The established repertoire is complemented by many theater festivals taking place in Berlin, for example, Berliner Theatertreffen, Tanz im August, Tanztage Berlin, and 100° Berlin. Taken together, all these elements reflect the creativity currently present in Berlin's theater scene as well as its artistic potential and dynamics. The city counted over 2.200 companies in 2017 in the branche of performing arts with a total revenue of almost 700 million Euro and about 14.392 employees.
Creative City Berlin collects and shares all the necessary information on the scene and its networks and partners such as LAFT Berlin, Tanzforum Berlin or Tanzraum Berlin. Creative City Berlin informs about appropriate developments, events, opinions, and trends. Constant influxes of international artists raise many important issues such as the reorganizing of funding structures and the creation of additional rehearsal possibilities.
