Description

Exhibition 11.11.2023 - 01.01.2024

Berlin-born and based artist Enes Icer [ɛnɛs|iːt͡ʃər] (b. 1992) works in series. Through repeated dynamic sketches, Icer detaches his motifs from their system of meaning. Multi-layered compositions emerge, in which drawing, writing, and color intertwine and enable new ways of reading.
Carried by the repetitive rhythm of the line, paper, textiles or print templates become Icer's field of experimentation, in which the artist expresses his perception of the world, often with a humorous undertone.
His typefaces move between concrete poetry, transparencies, and personal notes. Studio colleague Götz Forstreute describes Icer's working method as a dance "with the overlooked pure as the page before its writing" from which "something whole" emerges. Icer's portrait heads and animals - cows, sheep, birds - are "clones" with individual character, reflecting a lived diversity. They form herds that move across the gallery walls, much as they do to change pastures: from one place to the next, from one season to the next.
Icer has had his studio at Kunsthafen imPerfekt since 2014. With his individual look and a unique signature, the artist enriches the scene of the so-called Outsider Art.
