Hybrid Talks “Soundscape”

Thursday, 01/14/2016, 6 p.m.
Hybrid Lab, TU Berlin, Strasse des 17. Juni 145, room 326, 10623 Berlin

“Soundscape” is a cultural-scientific and artistic concept in which the acoustic environment as a whole, from sounds of nature to the noise of machines to musical productions has been discussed, examined in its effect on the people, and documented in its historic transformation. The term was coined in the 1970s by the Canadian composer and researcher Murray Schafer and his colleague Barry Truax.

In the lectures of the 19th Hybrid Talks researchers and artists, including Truax, one of the formative figures of the discipline, will present how the term “soundscape” unfolded a holistic understanding of our acoustic environment and how it is productive for their work.
