On the 21st of June everyone can experience music of all directions according to taste and enthusiasm. All of Berlin will celebrate Fête de la Musique again on the streets and squares, the event and the concerts are free. The festival begins at 4pm and will continue outdoors until 10pm, then the celebration moves indoors. Amplified music is allowed by registration only and will appear on more than 100 open air and indoor locations in all districts of Berlin. In addition, spontaneous acoustic (unamplified) music will and can be performed throughout the city.

Fête de la Musique was launched in France in 1982 in order to expose within a few hours the large number of musicians in the country both audibly and visually. The festival has no artistic director; it is based on citizen participation. Some will provide a venue, others will be providing musical entertainment, with the audiences strolling about town to listen, dance and celebrate. Everyone is invited to fill the streets of Berlin with their own unique sounds of acoustic music, unamplified and without electricity!
Fête de la Musique is not commercial and it generates no revenue. Today Fête de la Musique is celebrated in 520 cities in 106 countries – over 40 cities and townships are participating in Germany, Berlin since 1995. The Berlin celebration is financed by the Senate Chancellery for Cultural Affairs and by the German Lottery Foundation of Berlin. Since 1995 Fête de la Musique Berlin is organized by Fête Company.
