Since 2019, Galerie Kulturhaus has had an inclusive focus. We show "Outsider Art" - artistic works by people with physical, mental or psychological impairments. You will see works on our approximately 100 square meters of exhibition space, which are often characterized by an unconventional visual language. Works that often convince with unbroken imagination, great urgency and persuasiveness, and that retain a very special obstinacy almost untouched by the trends of contemporary art development.
Some of the artists receive supportive assistance in art-therapeutic institutions and art workshops. For our work we often cooperate with them. In addition, you can see exhibitions in which the works of impaired and non-impaired artists are shown together. For this purpose, we create the space for the artists to meet in advance, and together we develop suitable exhibition concepts, select works and organize accompanying events.
A third exhibition format at the Kulturhaus Gallery is the photographic presentation of inclusive art projects taking place elsewhere. Galerie Kulturhaus is one of a total of 36 Kommunale Galerien in Berlin.
Founded in 2020, the association supports the district-owned Kulturhaus Spandau in staging cultural events. It is the organizer of the concerts, theater performances, magic shows, readings and other formats that are presented primarily in the Kulturhaus, in the open-air stage at the Citadel and in the rooms of the Citadel.
The association has set itself the task of raising awareness of culture among the people of the district and, at the same time, giving culture in the district a stage. In doing so, culture stands as a socially lived practice for the breadth of the population and not explicitly as an elite promotion.
Special accents are set by sophisticated musical formats, which take place in cooperation with the district office and supported by funding from the Senate and are intended to have an impact beyond the boundaries of the district. (FORTE KULTUR, SPAM - Spandau macht Alte Musik...)
