The kulturwerk of the bbk berlin is a non-profit subsidiary of the berufsverband bildender künstler*innen berlin (the professional association of visual artists in berlin) whose primary goal is to establish favourable conditions for artistic production. The services provided by the kulturwerk are available to all professional visual artists in Berlin and enable them to work with unrestricted artistic freedom, independently of the pressures of conformity and commercialisation.
Studio Office / Studio funding The Office is the central contact point for all artists living in Berlin and looking for a studio–regardless of whether they are members of the bbk. We provide advice on finding a studio and holding on to existing studios. The Studio Office has made a long-term commitment to securing spaces for the production of visual art in Berlin and to keeping them affordable for artists, even in the face of gentrification.
The Sculpture workshop Comprising a total floor space of 3,600 sqm and a maximum hall height of 12 m, artists have ideal and diverse working opportunities here for projects in metal, stone, wood, ceramics as well as plaster and moulding. Up to 25 artists can work simultaneously in five workshop areas. Covering a length of 160 metres, the individual halls are connected by a gallery in which work can also be carried out.
The Printing workshop offers every possible artistic printing technique. From letterpress, etching and lithography to serigraphy and offset printing, the range of services is constantly being adapted and expanded in line with the latest technical developments. There are also workshops for paper production and bookbinding.
The Media workshop has provided infrastructure and expertise for the realisation of media art works. Its offers are aimed at all professional visual artists in Berlin. The workshop managers are happy to give advice on artistic projects and technical questions.
Office for art in public space Sculptures, installations, memorials shape not only the townscape, but demand and promote the cultural discourse with and in the public. We advise and support artists, public administrations, architects and builders during the preparation and implementation of art competitions. The aim of our work is to open up space for art and to improve and consolidate professional artists' perspectives.
Office for Artist Consulting - You are welcome! The office offers advice to visual artists from Germany and abroad, who want to start their career in Berlin. It offers support with the most important questions about working as a professional artist and helps artists to orientate themselves in the art city of Berlin.
