Description

Poutiaire Lionel Somé is a Burkinabe artist based in Cologne Germany, revealed through "Ayny", the Gold Medal winner at the Student Academy Awards 2016 in Los Angeles in the category Best Foreign Animation Film, with Ahmed Saleh’s stop motion animated film with his cinematography.

The story begins in Burkina Faso as a member of a politically dedicated Hip-Hop collective with which he discovers his love for writing and storytelling. A few years later, Lionel attended a film studies program at the Academy of Film and Television Production (ISIS-SE) in Ouagadougou, where he graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in Cinematography and Editing. In 2013, he traveled with a scholarship from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation for a Master's degree in Germany and completed a postgraduate degree at the Academy of Media Arts KHM in Cologne with a Master in Media Arts in 2018.

Together with an artists collective, he initiated a CrossMedia Art project "I like Africa and Africa likes me - I like Europe and Europe likes me" funded by the Fonds Doppelpass of the German Cultural Foundation, crossing Opera, Theatre, Performance and Film aesthetics. His first project "L'Africaine" an opera series, based on the Grand Opéra from Giacomo Meyerbeer, premiered at the National Opera Halle (Saale) in Eastern Germany in October 2018. The second project "L'Européenne" had its world premiere März 2020 at the National Theater Lübeck in Northern Germany.

The third one "Between two Tempests" based on William Shakespeare’s "The tempest" and Aimé Césaire’s "A tempest", premiered in November 2021 at the National Dortmund Theater in Western Germany and was nominated for the Berlin TheaterTreffen 2022.
