Urban Age - 'The Electric City' Conference 2012

Client: Triad Berlin Projektgesellschaft mbH for (Deutsche Bank) Alfred Herrhausen Society and the London Scholl of Economics

Role: Production Designer & Manager, Event

Location: London, U.K.

Description:

“Urban Age – Electric City” refers to the focus topics of the event, staged as a result of collaboration between the Alfred Herrhausen Society and the London School of Economics: energy-efficient technologies as well as the electrification of cities and its impact on urbanization

The general concept and the design of the conference and an evening event take their cue both from the overall theme and series title „Urban Age“ and from the focus topic of this particular event. What could be a better venue for this than a former electric power station? In the staging of the conference, the “Electric Light Station”, located in the trendy London district of Shoreditch, serves as an architectural allegory of the focus topic due to its former function. The deliberately minimalistic combination of light, colors, projections, technology, and media features leaves room for the guests to experience the own aura of the raw and primal brick masonry.

The subsequent evening event for invited guests at the London restaurant “The Wapping Project”, a former hydroelectric power station, revisits the focus topic.
