Description

At the church St. Nikolai in Spandau, elector Joachim II. had, in 1539, for the first time the sacrament according to Lutheran rite. By this, he introduced the reformation at the Mark Brandenburg.
The reformation historical museum of St. Nikolai is located in a house next to the church; its core it from the Middle Ages. Inside, the old timber framing is still visible. The changing exhibitions do primarily deal with church history which is always part of the local and regional history. Almost exclusively, exhibits from the own stock are shown here. After a visit at the museum, the cosy café invites you for a rest, either under old trees on the place Reformationsplatz or at the light winter garden.
A special treasury of the museum is the old church library with about 3,000 items. The oldest book is a manuscript from 1447. There are also some incunabula. But, the epochs of Reformation and of the Enlightenment left most traces. Especially from the 18th century, there are many natural scientific and philosophical books. For using the library or the archive, it is required to fix an appointment before.
