We are looking for an intern who is interested in supporting us in the artist studio of Kat Austen. We are looking for someone who has knowledge and interest to increase their knowledge about art and cultural management. The intern will have a variety of tasks depending on the ongoing projects. As a team, we are highly flexible and will guide the intern through what we have currently happening. We offer our expertise, network and provide you experience on how to run a professional artist studio, application work, portfolios, funding, about residencies, exhibition communication and set up.
Duration: 3-6 months
Start: Any time
Commitment: Part-time (15-20h per week)

Requirements:
Must have health insurance eligible to live in Germany.
Must have EU residency or visa.
Must be enrolled at a university or be a recent post-graduate.

About Kat Austen
Kat Austen is a person. In her artistic practice, she focusses on environmental issues. She melds disciplines and media, creating sculptural and new media installations, performances and participatory work. Austen’s practice is underpinned by extensive research and theory, and driven by a motivation to explore how to move towards a more socially and environmentally just future.
Working from her studio in Berlin, Austen is currently Artist in Residence at the Faculty of Maths and Physical Sciences, University College London, Senior Teaching Fellow at UCL Arts and Sciences and Associate Artist Fellow at Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies, Potsdam. Her studio hosts two Scientists in Residence through the STUDIOTOPIA programme hosted by Ars Electronica. In February 2022 Austen was awarded with the STAR+T+S Repairing the Future fellowship to develop in cooperation with Fara Peluso a algae-based Vinyl alternative. Additionally Austen received the NEUSTART Kultur project funding. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
Austen was Artist in the Arctic 2017 for Friends of Scott Polar Research Institute (University of Cambridge) for her project The Matter of the Soul. Austen was selected as inaugural Cultural Fellow in Art and Science at the Cultural Institute, University of Leeds (2018) and Artist Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (2020). Austen has been awarded residencies internationally, including EMAP / EMARE Artist in Residence at WRO Art Center, AiR at NYU Shanghai, ArtOxygen Mumbai and LAStheatre.
Austen has exhibited at Contemporary Museum Wrocław; Bonhams Art Gallery, London; The Polar Museum, Cambridge; Künsthalle Rostock; Kuehlhaus, Berlin, among others, and her work is held internationally in public and private collections. She has performed around the globe, including at Opera North, Leeds; Fusion Festival, Berlin and Headlands Center for the Arts, San Francisco.
