Help us advance digital rights in Europe!

The Digital Freedom Fund (DFF) works to advance digital rights through strategic litigation in Europe. We do this through grants that support the legal, advocacy, research, and other costs involved in litigation; through facilitating skill development and networking in the digital rights field; and through facilitating litigators’ access to pro bono legal support. We also co-drive a process to decolonise the digital rights field, which informs all our work. The initiative focuses on the need to reflect on the way in which uneven power dynamics, exclusion, and privilege play out in our field, including how these shape the way in which digital rights are conceived and how they are protected.

As part of our work in facilitating skill development and networking, we organise several events, including an annual strategy meeting, litigation retreats, workshops, and virtual meetings to collaboratively strategise on litigation across different digital rights issues. We are seeking a Communications Support to assist in the implementation of our communications strategic plan.

The position will run for six months, and the Communications Support will work directly with the Communications Lead.

Role description

The Communication Support’s time will be dedicated to the following tasks:
• Assist with the implementation of the communications strategic plan, including the production of newsletters and maintenance of the internal network lists;
• Coordinate the production of illustrations, infographics, and other materials with external service providers;
• Draft and organise social media content for campaigns to promote DFF blogs, videos, reports, toolkits, and media coverage on Twitter, Vimeo, and LinkedIn, all while adhering to our internal Style guide;
• Monitor and research influencers, trending topics, and tools; and
• Source content from our programme staff, from their areas of work, and from our events.

All team members are involved in the building of DFF as it is a young organisation. This will require hands-on work and flexibility from all team members and a willingness to, from time to time, take on tasks that do not strictly fall within anyone's job description.

You will be successful in this position if you have the following attributes:

• Currently enrolled in (or a recent graduate from) a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, digital filmmaking, digital media, or a development-related field;
• Strong motivation and work ethic, dedication to human rights and equality issues in particular, willingness to work in a small non-profit environment, and a desire and willingness to learn;
• Able to work effectively both as a team member and independently, with a high level of self-motivation and ability to set and meet goals;
• Familiarity with WordPress and Elementor to edit the content on the website;
• Excellent written, verbal, organisational, and interpersonal skills in English - attention to detail is essential;
• Dependable and flexible, with a strong ability to work well with shifting deadlines;
• Creative and resourceful with vibrant ideas; and
• Strong attention to detail.
